Though Maurice was originally willing to accept Rumple's terms, he changes his mind when the safety of his daughter comes into question, and Belle's fiancé, Gaston, agrees as well, refusing to let her be endangered. In exchange for his assistance with the ogres, he wishes to take Belle and have her work as his maid. Their call to Rumplestiltskin is quickly answered though, and the Dark One reveals he is willing to make a deal. The Ogre Wars continue to get worse, resulting in growing concern from Maurice, despite Belle attempts of reassurance. Belle is finally able to make peace with what has happened, but with the war worsening, she shares knowledge with her father that she picked up on during her trip of a man who may be able to help. Belle returns home empty-handed, but Maurice confesses the truth anyway, revealing that her mother sacrificed herself so that the ogres would not kill Belle she stood in the way, allowing the guards enough time to get her daughter to safety. There, Belle's missing memories are implanted in a stone which she is ordered to brew and drink, but when an incident with the Snow Queen occurs, the stone is destroyed, whereas Anna is taken captive. Determined to seek out the infamous rock trolls to find out the truth behind her mother's passing, while her father Maurice tries to keep her from doing so, she flees the castle during the night and heads for the kingdom of Arendelle where she meets Anna, who happens to be on her way to visit the rock trolls, as well. It doesn't take long for them to be discovered, but Belle's mind goes blank from there, for she instead wakes up, and quickly learns that her mother has passed away, having walked in on her funeral being held. (" Family Business")Īs the Ogre Wars carry out, Belle and her mother are rushed by guards of their castle to pack their belongings before they can vacate in time to avoid an attack, but with both women attempting to get as many books as they possibly can, they end up being forced to hide, for an ogre has made its way inside. Needing to know the truth gets the best of Belle. Despite being very resentful of Gaston due to his treatment of the ogre, Belle still agrees to marry him, for the sake of her kingdom.
Later on, however, it's revealed the ogres have breached the eastern region and that war is now unavoidable. Belle is appalled by this and refuses to let the ogre be harmed, allowing it to get away. Everyone believes this to be the ogre's fault, but when the ogre is found, the mirror reveals that it was in fact Gaston's, who tortured the ogre in her absence until it broke free.
Belle and Maurice set out for the mirror, but when returning they find Gaston collapsed on the ground and the ogre gone. She convinces her potential husband-to-be to consult a magical antiquities book in order of finding a way to prove the ogre's innocence, which she is successful with, having found a magical mirror to do the trick. Belle, however, knows it'll simply be tortured, and so she disagrees. Things don't go as Belle expected, for the two of them hit things off rather well, but when a baby ogre is found stuck in a hole, Gaston believes it to be a spy and wishes to bring it back to the castle for interrogation. Belle is hesitant, especially given the information she has taken in about her potential suitor, but Gaston wishes to put these worries to rest during a walk. (" Her Handsome Hero")īelle is approached by her father, Maurice, in regards of setting up an arranged marriage between her and Sir Gaston, whose own father's army is needed in a current battle against the ogres that threaten their kingdom. In order to protect her kingdom, Belle accepts Gaston's marriage proposal. Now you've made your choice and you're going to regret it forever.
